Andrew studied Fine Art at University of Wales, graduating with a first class Honours degree in 2007. On completion, he established his own studio near Chester and obtained further training through St Martins College London and Westdene College, Chichester. His work has since met with critical acclaim and now sells locally and internationally. In 2011 he was shortlisted for membership of the Royal Cambrian Academy and had work accepted for exhibition by the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, London.
My work is concerned with an emotional response to the natural world, in particular to the quality of light. After drawing in the landscape I paint intuitively in the studio, allowing compositions to evolve naturally. I want the final paintings to act as objects in their own right with their own emotional resonance, evoking memories and personal interpretations in the viewer.
I love the sensuality of paint, used in direct, gestural brushstrokes, and its ability to evoke the rough, raw experience of the natural world.
